Pokédex Entries

Transmite compensate for their relatively poor eyesight with their other, more powerful senses. They are sensitive to the bioelectricity produced by other creatures and can use it to pinpoint and identify targets, such as the small insects they like to eat.


People used Transmite to guide them through dark places such as caves until technology became more advanced. Even today scientists study their ability to sense and transmit small electrical pulses in search of additional applications.

Additional Info

Recent research into methods for aiding the visually-impaired have shown that Transmite can be trained to transmit special electrical signals to a person's brain, improving their ability to detect and interpret their surroundings. Most of these tests have been very successful—so much so, in fact, that Voltaire is able to battle Pokémon with the best of them and earn a position as League Champion. His younger brother Jacques is also learning to work with an assistance Transmite.

(Note: Transmite sending electrical signals that a person's brain can interpret as shapes/movement is actually (very) loosely based on a real technique for helping the visually-impaired "see", albeit a less-refined version of that technique that I can no longer find a link to.)
