Differences from Canon

While for the most part Pokémon Turquoise sticks fairly close to main series game canon with respect to its mechanics, there are some things that had to be changed so that they can function fairly (or function at all) in a forum-based RPG. A few other things were tweaked or improved slightly as well. Detailed information about the altered concepts can generally be found elsewhere on the site (all moves have their own pages which can be found via the search bar, for example), but for your convenience all of the major changes implemented so far are listed here.

Moves

Camouflage

Camouflage turns the user into a different type based on the route/location it is used in, not based on specific terrain. The list is as follows:

  • Leddin Town, Shrdlu Town, anywhere not covered below: Normal
  • Route NL1/Dingbat Cave, Fulgurok Caves/Fulgurok Island: Rock
  • Allogra City, Denath Village, Route NL4/Denath Plains, Ambalchi Temple, Routes NL3 and NL5: Grass
  • Szlazan City, Acoatyl Tower, Routes NL7 and NL8: Flying
  • Baaresa Town, Fulgurok Mountains (peaks only): Ice
  • Fulgurok Mountains (except peaks), Dia City, Routes NL9 and NL10: Electric
  • Route NL12/Falantr Docks, Falantr City, Rune City, Route NL13/Xybryle Bridge and Route NL14: Water
  • Xybryle Bay, Ton-Kura, all water routes: Water
  • Versorecto City, Etaoin City, Fractura City, Jarovesu Badlands, Routes NL16, NL17, NL18 and NL19: Fire
  • Alniraz Ruins/Victory Road, Pokémon League Headquarters: Ground

Celebrate

Celebrate now has different types and effects if the user holds certain items. New items become available to players on special occasions.

Cut

Cut's base power has been increased from 50 to 65; its type has been changed from Normal to Steel; it now has a high chance of causing critical hits; and it clears thicker, rampantly overgrown plants and other obstacles rather than skinny trees.

Grudge

If the user is knocked out by an opponent's direct attack (i.e. not by something like poison damage or hail damage) before it uses a different move, Grudge disables the move that the opponent used to knock out the user. The move takes on a "Grudged" status that remains until the end of the battle; even switching the affected Pokémon out will not restore use of the move.

Last Resort

The user must use at least three other moves without switching out before Last Resort can be selected. The user does not have to use every other move it knows first, but it also cannot use the move without knowing at least four moves including Last Resort.

Nature Power

Nature Power turns into a different move based on the route/location it is used in, not based on specific terrain. The list is as follows:

  • Leddin Town, Shrdlu Town, anywhere not covered below: Tri Attack
  • Route NL1/Dingbat Cave, Fulgurok Caves/Fulgurok Island: Rock Slide
  • Allogra City, Denath Village, Route NL4/Denath Plains, Ambalchi Temple, Routes NL3 and NL5: Seed Bomb
  • Szlazan City, Acoatyl Tower, Routes NL7 and NL8: Air Slash
  • Baaresa Town, Fulgurok Mountains (peaks only): Ice Beam
  • Fulgurok Mountains (except peaks), Dia City, Routes NL9 and NL10: Discharge
  • Route NL12/Falantr Docks, Falantr City, Rune City, Route NL13/Xybryle Bridge and Route NL14: Scald
  • Xybryle Bay, Ton-Kura, all water routes: Brine
  • Versorecto City, Etaoin City, Fractura City, Jarovesu Badlands, Routes NL16, NL17, NL18 and NL19: Flame Burst
  • Alniraz Ruins/Victory Road, Pokémon League Headquarters: Earthquake

Secret Power

Secret Power's effect (30% chance to cause a certain side effect) varies based on the route/location it is used in, not based on specific terrain. The list of potential side effects is as follows:

  • Leddin Town, Shrdlu Town, anywhere not covered below: lowers Accuracy by 1
  • Route NL1/Dingbat Cave, Fulgurok Caves/Fulgurok Island: causes Flinching
  • Allogra City, Denath Village, Route NL4/Denath Plains, Ambalchi Temple, Routes NL3 and NL5: causes Sleep
  • Szlazan City, Acoatyl Tower, Routes NL7 and NL8: causes Confusion
  • Baaresa Town, Fulgurok Mountains (peaks only): causes Freezing
  • Fulgurok Mountains (except peaks), Dia City, Routes NL9 and NL10: causes Paralysis
  • Route NL12/Falantr Docks, Falantr City, Rune City, Route NL13/Xybryle Bridge and Route NL14: lowers Speed by 1
  • Xybryle Bay, Ton-Kura, all water routes: lowers Attack by 1
  • Versorecto City, Etaoin City, Fractura City, Jarovesu Badlands, Routes NL16, NL17, NL18 and NL19: causes Burning
  • Alniraz Ruins/Victory Road, Pokémon League Headquarters: lowers Defense by 1

Spite

Spite lowers the target's Attack or Special Attack by 1, depending on the class (physical or special) of the last move it successfully used against the user. It fails if the target has not yet used either a physical or special move since being sent out.

Trump Card

Trump Card has 40 base power the first time it is used when a Pokémon is sent out, 50 the second, 60 the third, 80 the fourth and 200 the fifth and beyond. Its power resets to 40 if the user is switched out.

Abilities

Illuminate

Illuminate now has the same effect as Compound Eyes: it increases the accuracy of the bearer's moves by 30%. It does not affect wild Pokémon encounter rates.

Pressure

Pressure now has a 10% chance to lower the attacking Pokémon's Accuracy by 1, similar to Flame Body or Static but potentially activating on any attack that targets the bearer (e.g., it may activate after Tackle, Flamethrower or Sleep Powder rather than just Tackle).

Run Away

Run Away now allows the bearer to switch out of the trapped and partially-trapped statuses (caused by Mean Look, Fire Spin, etc.) in addition to guaranteeing escape from wild Pokémon.

Items

Aguav, Figy, Iapapa, Mago and Wiki Berries

The Aguav, Figy, Iapapa, Mago and Wiki Berries restore 12.5% of their holder's HP in a pinch but do not cause confusion.

Exp. Share

If a Pokémon holding this item does not participate in battle, it gains 50% of the experience it would have gained if it had participated in that battle. If it does participate, it gains 100% of the experience as normal.

Note that this is not a key item and does not affect every single Pokémon in the trainer's party.

Grepa, Hondew, Kelpsy, Pomeg, Qualot and Tamato Berries

The Grepa, Hondew, Kelpsy, Pomeg, Qualot and Tamato Berries raise the happiness of the Pokémon who eats them by 3 per berry. They do not affect stats in any way.

Honey

Honey is a single-use item that reverses the rarities of the wild Pokémon in a location—in other words, making rare Pokémon more common and common Pokémon rarer—for three wild Pokémon encounters. Some wild lists have special conditions; be sure to check an area's Noticeboard thread to see if such conditions apply.

Luxury Ball

The Luxury Ball adds 100 to a caught Pokémon's happiness upon capture. It does not boost happiness gained after capture.

Net Ball

The Net Ball's catch rate when used on Bug- and Water-type Pokémon is now 4x instead of 3x.
